Brazilian artist Almir Mavignier, an active participant of post-war new visual research, founded upon the constructivist tradition, was one of the founders of the international exhibition New Tendencies in 1961 at the Zagreb Gallery of Contemporary Art. Mavignier’s Rectangle is a semiotic structure with a dark red background, on which the artist dotted blue and green tones of paint in regular rows interchanges, applied directly from the tube.
