Dušan Džamonja(Strumica, Republic of Macedonia, 1928 – Zagreb, Croatia, 2009)

Iron Tapestry 1967

iron, 150 cm x 197 cm x 26 cm

Džamonja's works belong to the modernist concept of free forms, an aesthetic principle by which he intuitively, on the foundations of abstraction, develops an artistic world-view liberated from the need to depict. His sculptures, reliefs, and drawings are characterized by vitalism, a universal vernacular of visual art that emerges from the primordial need of the artist to express elementary states of life – birth, growth, and death.
