Manhattan, one of the best-known paintings from the time of his stay in United States (1951 -52.), is characterized by the artist’s fascination with the environment and its characteristics – architecture, speed, and the way in which light influences intensity and distributes the colours on the glass façades of skyscrapers. The composition is strongly defined by the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, under which a dense urban agglomeration is reflected on the surface of the East River.
