Marija Ujević-Galetović (Zagreb, Croatia, 1933)
Polyester, 3 x (200 cm x 130 cm x 40 cm)
Marija Ujevic’s sculpture Target 2, created in 1981, consists of three male figures whose backs are turned to the viewer and whose hands are on the wall, like helpless victims of some arrest or search, which is a familiar film or TV scene. The texture of white polyester is pervaded with capillaries in blue and bright red, stressing the drama of the events and the expression of the body, but also suggesting the pulsating of life in these, at-first-glance static, frozen figures.
