Work for the Exhibition in Zagreb

Text, self-adhesive letters

199.5 cm x  224.5 cm

Work for the Exhibition in Zagrebwas created during Haacke’s stay in Zagreb in 1980 while preparing his exhibition in The Museum of Contemporary Art. This work is paradigmatic of Haacke’s art practice of that period. In it he attached the following text/statement to a mirror: Because I do not speak or read Croatian, and I am also not familiar enough with the social and political situation in YugoslaviaI am unable to execute a particular work for this Zagreb exhibition as I have elsewhere executed works appropriate to specific circumstances.
