Marina Abramović (Belgrade, Serbia, 1946)

Rhythm 2, 1974

Colour film, Super 8, 35'

Marina Abramović is one of the most influential and renowned performance artists in the world. Rhythm 2, is one of her first performances performed in the Zagreb Gallery of Contemporary Art in 1974. It happens in several stages. The artist covers the floor of the Gallery with white paper and then sits at the table with a glass and two pills for patients with acute schizophrenia. The real situation that happens as a consequence of consuming antipsychotics is equalized with artistic act; ethical criteria are confused with aesthetic criteria, having a confusing effect on the viewers.
