Željko Kipke (Čakovec, Croatia, 1953)
Machina Precandi
1986
oil / canvas and brass
207 cm x 230.5 cm
The mysterious device on Željko Kipke's painting Machina Precandi is not modelled after the praying machines of Buddhist monks. It is a direct quotation of Marcel Duchamp’s 1914 painting Chocolate Grinder and an integral part of the Large Glass, a Dadaist installation that has determined a large part of art history in the twentieth century.
