The lecture and guidance through the exhibition will be held on October 21 at 6 pm on the 2nd floor of the MSU exhibition.
The lecture presents artworks produced within the framework of Arte Povera, exploring how, at the height of the first Space Age, artists engaged with cosmic imaginaries mediated through mass media, scientific discourse, and literary and cultural references.
Through highly personal approaches, these works reframed the fascination, as well as the cultural and epistemological questions, generated by the transformations then underway. The event continues with a walking tour through selected works in the MSU collection, proposing a transnational and retrospective reading and considering how their cosmic imageries may offer an early articulation of concerns that have gained renewed relevance within contemporary planetary thought and the planetary turn.
The event is part of Alessandra Franetovich’s research project ‘Cosmic Imageries in Arte Povera: from the Space Race to the Planetary Turn’ granted by the Italian Council program (14ᵗʰ edition, 2025) and promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Alessandra Franetovich is an Affiliate Fellow at New York University Abu Dhabi, a lecturer at NABA, Milan, and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Verona, and a curator at Cripta747, Turin.
