As part of Andreja Kulunčić’s exhibition To Make the World a Better Place, curator Anca Verona Mihuleţ will lead a workshop titled Hide and Seek for adults, taking place on Saturday, May 17, at 4:00 PM. The workshop will be held in English.
Led by Anca Verona Mihuleţ (Romania/South Korea), the workshop addresses themes such as dislocation, integration, justice, outsiderhood, and human rights. It is designed for students, educators, linguists, philosophers, and foreigners interested in analysing primary sources such as testimonies or interviews. Ideally, participants should have experienced life abroad or be foreigners currently living in Croatia.
During this two-hour workshop, curator Anca Verona Mihuleţ will guide participants through a collective reading and analysis of selected migration case studies. Starting with a work by Andreja Kulunčić that addresses migration and the position of foreigners, the curator opens up a space for discussion on the representation of migrants in art and society.
The group will then engage in focused work on 3–5 case studies based on real-life experiences of migrants and foreigners – such as students deported for their political beliefs or artists from war-affected regions. Participants will take turns reading these cases aloud and analyzing them together, with special attention to how migrants are portrayed in different types of discourse: in the media, in official documents, and in academic research.
Anca Verona Mihuleţ will simultaneously provide a broader historical context for migration, inviting the group to explore how the causes of migration and public perceptions have changed over the centuries. A key element of the workshop is the active involvement of all participants – through text commentary, sharing personal reflections, and drawing connections to their own or local experiences.
The workshop encourages collective reflection, the development of a critical stance toward dominant narratives about migration, and a deeper understanding of the complexity of both contemporary and historical migratory processes.
Anca Verona Mihuleţ is a Romanian curator and art historian based in Seoul. She is the recipient of prestigious international awards (the Igor Zabel Grant in 2016 and the Bega Art Prize in 2019) and has participated in numerous international projects.
